Stretching is Underrated

When the world closes in on us, stretching can help us push it back.   There are so many elements in our lives that cause stress.  These affect our bodies in ways that we don’t even think about at times. Do you ever wonder what being hunched over your keyboard for hours is doing to your shoulders over time?  Or what sitting at your desk all day does to your back, hip flexors, and quadricep muscles?

The dynamics of almost any profession can take its toll on us on a daily basis, and it is important to find a means to counteract these ill effects. Stretching can be one of the simplest yet most effective means to do so.  There are so many benefits we can glean from having a stretching routine.  Not only to reduce these bad effects but to help protect our bodies from further wear and tear.

Some of the many benefits of stretching:

  • Improves tissue flexibility and elasticity
  • Promotes blood flow into the tissue
  • Improves range of motion
  • Lengthens your muscles
  • Helps prevent accidents and injuries

Before you get your cardio on, it is crucial to take a few moments and stretch it out.  Focus more on the body part which your cardio routine will affect the most.  If you’re cycling, be sure to really stretch your legs for example.  Weightlifting?  Give those shoulders and arms a little more attention.  Try incorporating yoga as a means of keeping your body supple and reap further benefits in the fight against the daily onslaught of stress.

So be sure to have a stretching routine as a mainstay in your health regime.  It will further enhance your well-being in more ways than doing cardio alone.
